In a significant development, Trinamool Congress leader Shankar Aadya has been arrested in connection with a corruption case related to ration distribution. The arrest followed a raid at Shankar's residence in Bangaon at 7:30 am on Friday, conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). After 17 hours of interrogation, the ED officially arrested Shankar Aadya on Friday night.
However, the arrest did not transpire without incident, as local residents protested when ED officials were leaving with Shankar for the CGO complex. The situation escalated, leading to central forces using lathicharge to disperse the crowd. amidst a tumultuous scene where nearly 100 men and women attempted to obstruct ED officers.
The ED team, accompanied by central forces jawans, faced a mob that pelted stones at their vehicles as they left Bongaon, resulting in shattered glass. The incident resembled the ED team's encounter in Sandeshkhali, where loyalists of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh attacked officers during a search, leaving three officers injured. Adhya denies wrongdoing and will be produced in court after a health checkup on Saturday.
